Obituary for Dolly A. Burdge (Scott)

BLAIRS MILLS, Dolly A. Burdge, 87, of Blairs Mills died at 4:50 a.m. on Saturday, August 17, 2013, at the Chambersburg Hospital.
Born February 2, 1926, in Tell Twp., Huntingdon County, she was a daughter of the late Howard and Frances (Nelson) Scott. Her husband, Roy D. Burdge, preceded her in death on May 3, 1973.
Surviving are her children, Carl E. Burdge and his wife Mary, of Mifflintown, Pastor Judy Rowles and her husband Gary, Cross Keys, Gene Burdge and his wife Susan, Joyce Campbell and her husband Clair, Harry Burdge and his wife Christine, all of Blairs Mills; one sister, Betty Fegan, of Blairs Mills; 26 grandchildren and many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Three children, Joy Hope Virginia Burdge, Ricky Lee Burdge, David R. Burdge; two grandsons, Richard B. “Bozey” Harvey, James C. “Jimmy” Burdge; 6 brothers and 4 sisters preceded her in death.
In earlier life, Dolly worked as a waitress for the Howard Johnsons, Willow Hill and as an aid at the Masonic Home, Elizabethtown. She later worked as a lift operator at the New Cumberland Army Depot, Mechanicsburg Navy Depot and until her retirement in 1981, the Letterkenny Army Depot.
Mrs. Burdge was a charter member and Board member of the Village Lighthouse Chapel, Blairs Mills.
Dolly loved to cook, sing, crochet and tend her flowers. Serving the Lord was of the utmost importance to her and she cherished the time she spent with her children and many grandchildren. Many years ago, the Lord our God, sent Dolly a vision of a church sitting in the heart of the valley, which ultimately became the Village Lighthouse Chapel. Her role as church mother has helped to shape the church into what it has become today.
A funeral service will be held at 6 p.m., Tuesday, August 20, 2013, at the Village Lighthouse Chapel, Blairs Mills, with Rev. John Burleson, Pastor Roy Fahnestock and Pastor Judy Rowles officiating. Interment will be private.
Viewing will be held from 2 – 6 p.m. with family present from 4 – 6 p.m., Tuesday, at the church.
The family will provide all funeral flowers and ask that memorial contributions in Mrs. Burdge’s memory may be made to her church, The Village Lighthouse Chapel, c/o Tyler L. Hutchinson, 2556 Rt. 35 S., East Waterford, PA 17021.
