Obituary for Walter Lee "Lee" Worrall

MIFFLINTOWN, Walter Lee Worrall, 65, of Mifflintown, passed away suddenly on March 27, 2014, at the VA Medical Center in Lebanon. He was recently diagnosed with metastatic lung cancer. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Hai “Liên” Worrall, as well as his parents, Walter R. Worrall, Jr. and Ida Worrall, née Weiand; his sister Linda Fultz and her husband Sherman, all of Mifflintown; his daughters Hanh Orndorff and her husband Steve, of Hanover, and Brandy Worrall and her husband Anton Soriano, of Vancouver, Canada; and his five grandchildren, Tyler, Stevii, Chloe, Mylo, and Moxie.
Walter, or Lee by which he was commonly known, was a proud veteran of the Vietnam War, during which he met his wife Liên. For 28 years he worked at the Navy Ships Parts Control Center in Mechanicsburg. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, writing letters to the editor of the Juniata Sentinel, and spending time with his family. When Lee married Liên at the U.S. Embassy in Saigon, he adopted Hanh, renaming her My Hanh (“My” is Vietnamese for “beautiful”). He was the best father to Hanh, and he was always there for her and her children during difficult times. He often went on vacations with Hanh and her family. Lee and Liên also travelled frequently to Vancouver, Canada to be with their daughter Brandy and her family. Prior to his passing, Lee was looking forward to spending two weeks in Hawaii with Brandy’s family, in order to celebrate several happy occasions and in particular to renew his wedding vows with Liên.
A funeral service, with military honors accorded by the Juniata County Veterans Council, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge Street, Mifflintown.
A viewing will be held at 7-9 p.m. on Friday, April 4, 2014 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Callanish Society in Vancouver, Canada. Callanish is an organization that has been a large part of Lee’s daughter’s recovery from breast cancer, and he felt strongly that he needed to pay it forward to this organization for all the help it has provided. The contact information is Callanish Society, 2277 West 10th Avenue, Vancouver, BC V6K 2J1, Canada; phone number 604-732-0633. Callanish accepts U.S. cash, checks, and credit cards. Online donations also may be made at www.callanish.org.
