Obituary for Ruth H. Meiser

McALISTERVILLE, Ruth H. Meiser, 92, of McAlisterville, died at 1:05 a.m., on Monday, April 07, 2014 at the Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.
Born on December 27, 1921, in Fayette Township, Juniata County she was a daughter of the late Samuel G. and Sallie (Snyder) Hepner. On June 1, 1941 she married, Ralph E. Meiser, with whom she shared more than 53 years of marriage until he preceded her in death on November 4, 1994.
Surviving are: her sons, R. Terry Meiser and his wife Jennie, of Mifflin; Dennis R. Meiser and his wife Mary Lou, of McAlisterville; Douglas E. Meiser and his wife Michele, of Mifflintown; and Michael A. Meiser and his wife Lisa, of St. Augustine, FL; siblings, Kenneth E. Hepner, of McAlisterville, Mary F. Wert, of Manheim, Ferne O. Hepner, of Belleville; 12 grandchildren, Andrew Meiser, Christy Edwards, Matthew Meiser, Rebekah Morgan, Leslie Leidig, Kathy Stroup, Nathan Meiser, Malia Asthappan, Kiersta Meiser, Katie Meiser, Kari Meiser and Alayna Meiser and she leaves behind 18 great grandchildren.
Seven siblings, Gladys Hepner, Esther Varner, Samuel C. Hepner, Marlin Hepner, Clarence Hepner, Donald “Jim” Hepner and Richard L. Hepner, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Meiser was an active member of Browns United Methodist Church, McAlisterville, where she served on Missions Committee, the Pastor/Parrish Relations Committee, taught Sunday school and was a member of the choir.
Ruth was a homemaker who was also employed as a cook for the East Juniata High School, Mary Coldren Personal Care and later the Zendt Nursing Home. She also assisted her husband Ralph with running Meiser Lumber Co. and made pies for many area restaurants.
She enjoyed many things, such as baking, making afghans and quilts, sewing and spending time with her grandchildren. Ruth had a special ability to befriend people and open her home with hospitality to many people.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 11, 2014, from the Browns United Methodist Church, McAlisterville with Rev. Candace Arnold and her grandson, Pastor Andrew Meiser officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery, McAlisterville.
Viewing will be from 4 – 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 10, 2014 with family present from 6 – 8 p.m., at the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 111 Westfall St., McAlisterville. There will be no viewing at the church.
