EAST WATERFORD, Joan F. Swarner, 68, of East Waterford went on her journey to heaven at 10:35 a.m., on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at the Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin.
Born on October 28, 1945 in Lewistown, Mifflin County she was a daughter of the late John and Marilyn (Shover) Clouser. Her first husband, Ward L. Berry preceded her in death on March 10, 1996 and on May 15, 1999 she married her surviving husband, Ralph E. Swarner, with whom she shared more than 15 years of marriage.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Debra Pratt and her husband Brian, of Coatesville, Nina Berry, of Lewistown, step-children, Robin Fry and her husband Chris, Kevin Lyter, all of East Waterford, siblings, Linda Lett and Tom, of South Carolina, Connie Druck and her husband Don, of York, John Clouser, of Chambersburg, Kenny Clouser, of York, and she leaves behind 8 grandchildren, Cristal Ritchey and her husband Darren, Jonda Irvin and her companion Terry Burdge, Mary Hackenberger, Daniel Hackenberger, McKenna Fry, Owen Fry, also 2 great-granddaughters, Alyssa Ritchey and Breanne Ritchey.
Two grandsons in infancy, Adam Hackenberger and James Ellis preceded her in death.
Mrs. Swarner attended the New Beginnings Church, Spruce Hill and the Village Lighthouse Chapel, Blairs Mills.
In earlier life she was employed by Masland Carpets, Carlisle then she worked at the C & S Diner, East Waterford, after which, she provided in home personal care.
Joan was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed cooking, gardening and taking care of others, however spending time with her grandchildren and great-granddaughters was her greatest joy.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 15, 2014 from the New Beginnings Church, 20343 Rte. 75 South, Port Royal with the Rev. Frank Swartz and Pastor Judy Rowles officiating. Interment will follow in the East Waterford Cemetery.
Viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Friday, at the church.
