THOMPSONTOWN, Betty Nearhood, 86, of Thompsontown, went to be with her Lord and Savior at 6:03 p.m. Tuesday, September 2, 2014, in the Emergency Room at the Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.
Born December 18, 1927, in Cocolamus, Juniata County, she was the daughter of the late Elmer E. and Myrtle Marie (Garman) Beers. On July 17, 1947 she married her husband, Wayne E. “Red” Nearhood, with whom she shared almost 63 years of marriage until he preceded her in death on July 2, 2010.
Surviving are several cousins.
One brother, John E. Beers, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Nearhood was a member of the Thompsontown United Methodist Church and a seamstress for the Thompsontown garment factory until retiring in 1974.
She and her husband Wayne enjoyed camping, taking day trips and going to flea markets.
As per Mrs. Nearhoods request, graveside services and interment will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 5, 2014 from the Goodwill Cemetery, Bunkertown with Rev. Barbara C. Yorks officiating.
There will be no viewing.
Mrs. Nearhood’s family will provide all funeral flowers and kindly ask that memorial donations in Betty’s memory be made to the Thompsontown United Methodist Church, c/o Anise Page, Treas., 295 Sycamore Dr., Thompsontown, PA 17094 or to the Thompsontown Fire Department, P.O. Box 143, Thompsontown, PA 17094.
