Obituary for Earl H. Smith

Earl H.   Smith
HARRISBURG, Earl H. Smith, 86, of the Arder Courts of Susquehanna, Harrisburg formerly of McAlisterville died at 1:25 a.m., on Sunday, September 28, 2014 at the Center.
Born on June 25, 1928 in McAlisterville, Juniata County, he was a son of the late Carl and Esther (DePew) Smith. On December 7, 1985 he married his surviving wife, Beryl E. (Schaeffer) Green-Smith, with whom he shared more than 28 years of marriage. His first wife, Janet (Swatsworth) Smith preceded him in death on September 23, 1993.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Larry Smith and his wife Etta, of Marysville, Diane Gassaway and her husband Joe, of Corfu, NY; step children, Melissa Bell and her husband Ron, of McAlisterville, Rodger Green and his wife Terri, of Goldsboro, NC, one granddaughter, Nichole Calderone and her husband Matthew, step grandchildren, Andy Bell and his wife Heidi, Rachael Stroup and her husband Keith, Chris Bell and his wife Heidi, Mary Bell and her fiance Eoin Lahane, Randy Green, Dani Green and Reagan Green; great grandchildren, Savanna, Soren, Serene, Seneca, Silas, Sayla and Simeon Calderone; and step great grandchildren, Megan, Emma and Rylie Bell, Ty and Ashley Stroup, Hayley and Jayden Bell, Dakota, Mariah and Alyshia Green.
Two brothers, Clarence Smith, Lester Smith and one sister, Ruth Miller preceded him in death.
Mr. Smith was a 1947 graduate of Fayette High School, McAlisterville, a member of the Hope Presbyterian Church, Dauphin, the Colonial Park Winross Collectors Club and the J.E. Bowen, Jr. Amvets, Post 122, Thompsontown.
After serving in the U.S. Army, Earl was employed as a machinist for TRW/Chromalloy, of Harrisburg, until his retirement in 1992.
He had a collection of more than 1,000 Winross Trucks and loved car racing, especially NASCAR. Earl was a diehard Dale Earnhardt, Sr. fan.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 from the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 111 Westfall St., McAlisterville with Rev. Graham Fowler officiating. Interment will follow in the East Salem Cemetery.
There will be no viewing; however, the family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service, Wednesday, at the funeral home.
