HONEY GROVE, Harry R. Murphy, 46, of Honey Grove (Reeds Gap) died on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at his home.
Born on November 30, 1967, in Lewistown, Mifflin County, he was a son of Brenda L. (Swartz) Murphy, of Honey Grove and the late Harry B. Murphy.
He is survived by his children, Ashley J. Still and her husband Jeremy, of Newport, Megan R. Knepp and her husband John, and Isabellah D. Murphy, all of Lewistown; siblings, Cathy Imes and her husband Ken, of Honey Grove, Carey Wilson and her husband Steve, of Newport, Christopher E. Murphy and his wife Dawna, all of Honey Grove; and he leaves behind 2 grandchildren, Khloe Knepp and Mason Still.
One brother, Matthew M. “Matt” Murphy, preceded him in death on June 14, 2008.
Mr. Murphy was a 1985 graduate of Juniata High School, a member of the American Legion Post 298, Mifflintown and a member of the East Waterford Fire Company, where he had served as Fire Chief and now serving as a director, of the fire company.
Harry proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, having seen action in both Operation Iraqi Freedom and Desert Storm. After retiring as a Sargent with 22 years in the U.S. Army, he was employed by the New Cumberland Army Depot, the Navy Depot and the Port Royal Speedway.
His hobbies included hunting, fishing and racing.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 from the South Juniata Baptist Church, Honey Grove with the Rev. Dennis Thompson officiating, where full military burial honors will be accorded by the Juniata County Veterans Council. Interment will be private.
Viewing will be held from 6 - 8 p.m. on Monday, November 10, 2014 at the church.
