Obituary for Donald "Ducky" O. Thompson

Donald O. “Ducky” Thompson, 78, of Palmyra and formerly of McAlisterville, died on December 1, 2014, on the mountain in Perry County, the first day of buck season, doing what he truly loved to do.
Born on April 9, 1936 in Lewistown, Mifflin County, he was the son of the late Kathryn (Flickinger) Lauver. On September 9, 1966 in Leesburg, VA he married his surviving wife, Vicky (Burris) Thompson, with whom he shared more than 48 years of marriage.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by: children, Dee (Spriggle) Miller and her husband Pete, of Malvern, Terrye (Spriggle) Molick and her husband John, of Selinsgrove, Brian Thompson and his wife Melissa, of Palmyra; siblings, Mary (Lauver) King and her husband Lyle, of Carlisle, Fran Lauver, of Harrisburg, George Lauver and his wife Rhonda, Concord, NC, Dorothy Stuckey and her companion Jeff Ludwig, of Harrisburg; 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
One sister, Ruth (Lauver) Bechtel, preceded him in death.
He is a graduate of Greenwood High School, and attended Susquehanna University until joining the U.S. Army. He was also member of the Bunkertown Church of the Brethren
Donald retired in 1988 as a helicopter mechanic from the Corpus Christi Army Depot, Corpus Christi, TX.
“Ducky” was an accomplished gardener and an avid outdoorsman, who loved to hunt and fish.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 4, 2014 from the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 111 Westfall St., McAlisterville with his sister, Pastor Mary King officiating. Interment will follow in the Goodwill Cemetery, Bunkertown where the Juniata Council Veterans Council will accord full military burial honors.
Viewing will be from 1 p.m. until the time of service on Thursday, at the funeral home.
