Donald V. “Beanie” Delancey, Sr., 86, of Mifflintown, passed away, surrounded by his family at 2:07 p.m. on Sunday, January 18, 2015 at the Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.
Born on August 19, 1928 in Spruce Hill Twp., Juniata County, he was a son of the late Harris M. and Anna E. (Longacre) Delancey. On August 26, 1950 he married his surviving wife, Gloria D. (Guyer) Delancey, with whom he shared more than 64 years of marriage.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Jean Weiand and her husband Allen, of Mifflintown, Donald Delancey, Jr. and his wife Peg, of Thompsontown, Timothy Delancey and his wife Barb, of Burnham, Mark Delancey and his wife Maryann, Jill Baumgardner and her husband Steve, all of Licking Creek, Laura Swartz and her husband Steve, of Port Royal , son-in-law, Thomas “Mel Thomas” Mellan, of Mexico, siblings David H. Delancey and his wife Marie, of McAlisterville, Stella Hepner and her husband Harvey, of Mifflintown and Barbara J. Frankenberry, of Richfield; 10 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren and several step grandchildren and great grandchildren.
One daughter, Judith A. Mellan, three brothers, H. Russell Delancey, Arthur Delancy, Thomas Delancey, and two sisters, Patricia Weiand and Wilda Stanford preceded him in death.
He was a member of the Arch Rock United Methodist Church, a former member and past president of the American Legion Post 298, former member of the Crawford-Brubaker VFW #5863, all of Mifflitown, and former member and first president of the Juniata County Sportsman’s Associaton.
During WW II, he proudly served his country with the U.S. Army.
Mr. Delancey was a mechanic and heavy equipment operator, for several construction companies before his retirement.
Don enjoyed gardening, tending to his lawn, feeding and watching the many birds that came to his bird feeders. However, his most enduring legacy will be the love he had for his family.
Services will be private and held at the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown with Rev. Joseph N. Yorks officiating. Interment will be in East Salem Cemetery, where full military burial honors will be accorded by the Juniata County Veterans Council.
