Obituary for Shirley M. Hughey

Shirley M. Hughey, 82, of Honey Grove passed away on Saturday, January 24, 2015, at the Bridges at Brookline, Mifflintown.
Born on October 18, 1932, in Mifflintown, Juniata County, she was a daughter of the late Edward H. and Alva (Wise) Potter. On June 10, 1950, she married her late husband George O. Hughey, with whom she shared more than 55 years of marriage until he preceded her in death on November 26, 2005.
She is survived by a brother in law, Boise Fry, of Oberlin, also many nieces and nephews.
A son, Dennis G. Hughey preceded her in death on October 1, 1972 and she was the last of her generation being preceded in death by a brother, Gary Potter and four sisters, Joan Ritchey, Sadie Colyer, Jean Fry and Doris Hench.
Mrs. Hughey was a 1950 graduate of Juniata Joint High School, Mifflintown and an active member of the Faith United Methodist Church, East Waterford. She also served on the election board of Tuscarora Township for many years.
In earlier life she was employed as a seamstress at the East Waterford Sewing factory.
Shirley loved baking, cooking, gardening, farming and sewing.
A funeral will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, January 29, 2015, from the Faith United Methodist Church, East Waterford with Rev. Donald Walters and Rev. Marsha Bookhamer officiating. Interment will follow in the East Waterford Cemetery.
Viewing will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service, Thursday, at the church.
