Obituary for John Patrick McCarchey

John Patrick McCarchey, 55, of Mifflintown fought a courageous battle with his illness and went home to be with his God at 2:02 a.m. on Thursday, February 19, 2015 in the presence of his loved ones at the Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin.
Born on December 2, 1959, in Lewistown, Mifflin County, he was a son of the late Harry and Rita (Keister) McCarchey. On October 8, 1983 he married his surviving wife, Gloria Irene (Barner) McCarchey, with whom he shared more than 31 years of marriage.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his siblings, Mary Benner, Larry McCarchey, Diana Holmes-Phoenix, Lisa Miller, aunt, Sandra Keister, five nieces and nephews as well as a special puppy, Sadie.
In earlier life he was employed by UPS Freight, Mechanicsburg, for 21 years until owning and operating McCarchey Home Restoration and Repairs, Mifflintown.
John was a God fearing Christian man who made every day of his life count and loved the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and taking care of his dogs. He also enjoyed attending auctions. Lending a helping hand wherever needed, learning new things and teaching his craft gave indication of the man he truly was.
A celebration of his life gathering will be held at a later date in the springtime.
Matthew 11:28: Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mr. McCarchey’s memory may be made to the St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
