Obituary for Jesse W. Maxton

Jesse W. Maxton, 72, of Mifflintown passed away at 7:44 p.m. on Friday, February 20, 2015 in the Emergency Room of Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.
Born on August 2, 1942, in West Chester, Chester County, he is a son of the late Ellsworth C. and Emilie (Pollock) Maxton. On April 2, 1966, he married his late wife, Barbara (Long) Maxton, with whom he shared nearly 49 years of marriage before she preceded him in death just three weeks ago on January 29, 2015.
Surviving are two daughters, Jill Maxton Baughman, of Carlisle, Patricia Ann Siegfried and her husband, Phil, of Elloittsburg, siblings, Norman Maxton and his wife, Kathy, of Mt. Pleasant Mills, Susan Maxton LeFebvre and her husband, Alan, of Harleysville, his mother in law, Flo N. Long, of Port Royal, a sister in law, Carol L. Adams and her husband, Jim, of Mifflintown, 4 grandchildren, Jake Baughman, Mason Baughman and his wife Casey, Eric Siegfried, Lauren Siegfried, and a great-grandson, Roland Baughman also numerous nieces and nephews.
A brother, William E. Maxton and his father in law, Albert “Jack Long preceded him in death.
For 5 years, he served with the U.S. Army Reserves where he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Mr. Maxton was a 1960 graduate of Unionville High School, Unionville, a member of the Faith United Church, Ickesburg, where he had served as Sunday school superintendent. More recently he had been attending the Lower Tuscarora Presbyterian Church, Academia. He also was a member of the Teamster’s Local 776, Harrisburg, a former member of the Mifflintown Lions Club, and a very cherished membership was to the Breakfast Club at Stop 35.
He retired with 39 years of service from UPS, Harrisburg as a delivery driver. Throughout his career he won numerous awards for his perfect driving record.
Jesse was a muscle car enthusiast who worked very diligently keeping his cars showroom quality. He also enjoyed gardening and perfecting his own lawn, however: he could always be found loafing with his boys at Stop 35.
There will be no viewing; however a time of visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2015 until the time of service.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at the Lower Tuscarora Presbyterian Church, 54 Church Road, Mifflin (Academia) with the Rev. John C. Park officiating. Interment will be private and held in the Old Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal.
