Obituary for John R. Gray

John R. Gray, 81, of Reeds Gap passed away at 9:41 p.m. on Thursday, March 19, 2015 at the Pinnacle Health Harrisburg Hospital, Harrisburg.
Born on March 15, 1934 in Reeds Gap, Juniata County, he was a son of the late Joseph R. and Beulah C. (Dunmire) Gray. On November 3, 1958 he married his surviving wife, Renna M. (Weiand) Gray, with whom he shared more than 56 years of marriage.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Rick Gray and his wife Sherry, of Chambersburg, Deb Filiak and her husband Richard, of Reeds Gap, a sister, Esther Deihl, of Port Royal, 5 grandchildren, Joe Gray, Tammy Mullen, Richie Earhart, Candi Earhart, Amanda Earhart, and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by 6 sisters, 3 brothers, and a great-grandchild.
Mr. Gray was a member of the Juniata County Coon Hunters Club and he had been employed by Junk’s Lumber Co. as a logger and truck driver until 1992 when an untimely logging accident prevented him from ever working again.
John’s passion was the outdoors, where he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Being an avid coon hunter he received quite a lot of recognition and awards for skills.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 24, 2015 from the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown with Rev. Dennis Thompson officiating. Interment will follow in Union Memorial Gardens, Mifflintown.
Viewing will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
