Obituary for Harry W. "Bud" Van Horn

Harry W. “Bud” Van Horn, 86, of Thompsontown, died at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday, May 28, 2015 at the Bridges at Brookline, Mifflintown.
Born on October 31, 1928, in Fayette Twp., Juniata County, he was the son of the late Cochran and Grace P. (Hornberger) Van Horn. On May 31, 1975, he married his surviving wife, Dolores K. (Kirk) Van Horn, with whom he was blessed to share nearly 40 years of marriage.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Glenda Auker and her husband Thomas, of Dauphin, Steven M. Van Horn and his wife Vickie, of McCoysville; step children, Debra Carper, of Lititz, Betty Stendahl, of Elizabethtown, Mary Beth Nipple, of Thompsontown, Amy Meminger, of Palmeto, FL; sisters, Geraldine Lukens and her husband Ken, of Carlisle, Fayne Wible and her husband Dick, of Thompsontown, Audrey Orwig, of Mifflintown and Doris Jean Bardell and her husband Robert, of Mt. Joy ; 1 grandson, Brian Price and his wife Kelley, 11 step-grandchildren, 16 step great-grandchildren.
Mr. Van Horn was a 1947 graduate of Thompsontown High School, a member of the East Salem United Methodist Church, a member of Tennis Lodge 371 F&AM, Thompsontown and was a charter member of the Thompsontown Lions Club. He also served as President of the East Salem Rod and Gun Club for 10 years.
Until his retirement in 1989, he was employed as a pipe fitter by Conrail, of Enola. After retiring, Harry continued to work at W.E. Schlegel, Inc., Thompsontown and as a substitute mailman for the Thompsontown Post Office.
Bud enjoyed hunting, fishing and was an avid football and Philadelphia Phillies baseball fan. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 1, 2015 from East Salem United Methodist Church with Rev. Joseph Yorks officiating. Interment will follow in the East Salem Cemetery.
Viewing will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service, on Monday at the church.
