Gerald B. “Bud” Bryner, 92, of Port Royal died at 1:36 a.m. on Sunday, July 12, 2015 at his home.
Born on February 11, 1923, in Spruce Hill Twp., Juniata County, he was a son of the late Edgar and Mabel (McMullen) Bryner. On June 10, 1944 he married his surviving wife, Edwina P. (Johnson) Bryner, with whom he was blessed to share 71 years of marriage.
Surviving are his daughter, Connie B. Fenner, of Port Royal; 2 grandchildren, Jeffrey S. Bryner and his fiancé Jamie Brown, Shannon Bryner and 2 great grandchildren, Mandy Bryner and Patrick Bryner.
One son, Stephen B. Bryner, three brothers, Lee Bryner, Ira Bryner, James Bryner and one sister, Vivian Bryner, preceded him in death.
Mr. Bryner was a member of the Port Royal Lutheran Church, the Union Lodge No. 324 F&AM, Mifflintown, Juniata Valley Forrest No. 88 Tall Cedars of Lebanon, a lifetime member of both the Friendship Fire Co., and Port Royal EMS, past member of the Port Royal Lions Club and a life member of the Penn Central Racing Association. In 2014 he was presented with the Port Royal Speedway’s Founders Award and served as grand marshal for Port Royal’s Bicentennial celebration in 2012. He also served as grand marshal for the Old Home Foliage Days.
As a self-employed truck driver, he also served as a heavy equipment operator and drove for Horning Oil Co., Port Royal and transported for Atlantic Richfield Transport, Mechanicsburg.
“Bud’s” racing career started with Penn Central Racing Association and with his love of racing spanned four generations of his family through the Bryner Racing Teams. He loved tinkering with anything and at one time he enjoyed golf. He was a true animal lover, especially dogs.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 16, 2015 from the Port Royal Lutheran Church with Rev. Charles Hershberger officiating. Interment will follow in the New Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal.
There will be no viewing; however the family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service Thursday at the church.
