Betty M. Simonton, 91, of the Bridges of Brookline, Mifflintown and formerly of Port Royal passed away at 2:44 p.m. Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at Brookline. Born March 2, 1924, in Beale Township, Juniata County, she is a daughter of the late G. Norman and Mary (Robinson) Moyer. Her husband, Glen B. Simonton, whom she married on March 17, 1951 and was blessed with 56 years of marriage, preceded her in death on October 4, 2007.
She is survived by her children, Clark R. Simonton, Sr. and his wife Robin, Port Royal; Glenda S. Stump and her husband Thad, Melrose, Mass. Cathy S. Civello, Upper Black Eddy, PA; one sister, Norma Book, Port Royal; seven grandchildren, Clark Simonton, Jr., Jodi Goshorn and her husband Matthew, Ethan Stump, Marla Potter and her husband Jay, Laura Stump, Natalie Stump and Terri Stump, also she leaves behind three precious great-grandsons, Kaiden Goshorn, Kase Goshorn and Ansel Potter.
A sister, Catharine "Kate" Clark, and a great granddaughter, Mekenzie Grace Goshorn, in infancy, preceded her in death.
She along with her late husband owned and operated the Glen-ett Farms, Port Royal.
Mrs. Simonton was a homemaker who was a member of the Lower Tuscarora Presbyterian Church, Academia, where she had taught Sunday school and belonged to the Women’s Circle of the church.
Betty loved gardening, crocheting sewing and Penn State football. With her gift of cooking and baking, the church will long remember her for her raisin sauce and her grandchildren will always cherish the memory of her fluffy chocolate chips cookie and raspberry jelly.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 1, 2015, from the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc. 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown with the Rev. John C. Park officiating. Interment will follow in the Academia Cemetery, Academia.
A visitation will be held from 6 - 8 p.m., Friday, July 31, 2015 at the funeral home.
