Mary E. Hoffman, 98, of Evendale, died at 5:15 p.m., on Monday, November 16, 2015 at the Richfield Senior Living and Rehabilitation Center.
Born on September 27, 1917 in West Perry Township, Snyder County, she was a daughter of the late Cloyd and Stella (Derr) Apple. On February 19, 1938 she married her late husband, Nevin L. “Pap” Hoffman, with whom she shared more than 74 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on July 16, 2012.
Surviving are her children, Twila Graybill, Clarence Hoffman and his wife Rosetta, Delbert Hoffman and his wife Audrey, all of Evendale; four sisters, Olive Hibbs and her husband Clarence of Mt. Pleasant Mills, Glendora Lauver of Oakland Mills, Norma Sheaffer and her husband Gerald of Richfield, Janet Apple of McAlisterville, and she leaves behind 10 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 12 step great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren and 11 step great-great-grandchildren.
One son, Kenneth Hoffman; two sons-in-law, Raymond Graybill, Samuel Knouse; one daughter-in-law, Beverly Hoffman and one granddaughter, Deborah Heisey, and six siblings, Helen Hoffman, Elmer Apple, Albert Apple, Reno Apple, Naomi Graybill, and Herbert Apple preceded her in death.
Mary was a member of the Richfield Mennonite Church, where she had served as a Sunday school teacher and lent her talents of sewing and quilting to projects for the Women’s Missionary Society. She also enjoyed going to church camp to bake bread but her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
Mrs. Hoffman was a home maker who helped her late husband Nevin on the farm and she had also worked at the Richfield Shirt Factory.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., on Friday, November 20, 2015 from the Richfield Mennonite Church, with Pastor Aaron Benner and Pastor Jerry R. O’Connell officiating. Interment will follow in the Richfield Union Cemetery.
Viewing will be from 4-8 p.m., with the family present from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, November 19, 2015 and from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Friday, at the church.
