Obituary for Dorothy R. Shearer

Dorothy R.  Shearer
Dorothy R. Shearer, 89, of York, passed away at 5:59 p.m. Monday, November 23, 2015 at the Manor Care, York.
Born on December 13, 1925 in Beale Township, Juniata County, she was the daughter of the late William K. and Marie A. (Henry) Robinson. On November 23, 1949, she married her late husband, Clair L. Shearer, with whom she was blessed to share more than 51 years of marriage until he preceded her in death on February 18, 2001.
Surviving are her children, Alan Shearer and his wife Nora, of Dauphin, Lori Arthur and her husband Cyrus, of York, siblings, Harold H. Robinson, Kathryn Kell both of Walnut, and a grandson, Jon Arthur.
A son, Gary J. Shearer, two brothers, Robert and George Robinson, and a sister, Jessie Moyer preceded her in death.
She was a 1945 graduate of Juniata High School, Mifflintown a member and active volunteer of the East Waterford Presbyterian Church, where she was a member of the Pollyanna’s. Also, she belonged to the Dorsett Grange.
In earlier life, Mrs. Shearer owned and operated Dottie’s Beauty Shop of Port Royal and East Waterford, later she worked for Kinney Shoes, Carlisle, retiring in 1988.
Dorothy loved to read, was a great cook and enjoyed baking and canning. She also loved to spend time with her grandson, Jon.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 27, 2015 from the East Waterford Presbyterian Church with the Rev. John C. Park officiating. Interment will follow in the Concord Union Cemetery, Concord.
Viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 27, 2015 until the time of service at the East Waterford Presbyterian Church.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown.
