Obituary for R. Barry Shelley

R. Barry Shelley, 77, of Thompsontown, died at 9:59 p.m. on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at Brookline Manor in Mifflintown.
Born on December 4, 1938 in Thompsontown, he was a son of the late Robert E. and Ella E. (McKinney) Shelley. On December 20, 1959, he married his surviving wife, Gale L. (Martin) Shelley, and was blessed to share over 56 years of marriage.
Barry was a 1958 graduate from East Juniata High School and honorably served our country in the United States Navy and a member of the Good News Lutheran Church, McAlisterville.
Earlier in life, he was employed at Armstrong Cabinets in Thompsontown; after which he worked at TRW in Harrisburg; and later retired from the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board in Harrisburg.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Gaye Shelley of Frederick, MD; Scott Shelley and his wife Beth of Martinsburg, WV; Wendy Smith of Ashley, PA; two grandchildren, Aaron and Emily Smith; one great-granddaughter, Gracie Smith; one sister, Sheila Little and her husband David of Millersburg; one sister in law, Margaret Shelley of Sunbury; and several nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral services at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at the Good News Lutheran Brethren Church, 32868 Rt. 35 North, McAlisterville, with Pastor Michael Edwards officiating. Full military burial honors will be accorded following the funeral services at the church by the Juniata County Veteran’s Council. Interment will be private at the Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Thompsontown.
