Darlene M. Freed, 88, of Thompsontown died at 5:52 p.m., Monday, April 18, 2016 at the Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.
Born on May 22, 1927 in Selinsgrove, Snyder County she was a daughter of the late Rev. Carl and Reba (Smith) Bossler. On October 2, 1947 she married her late husband Frank D. Freed with whom she was blessed to share nearly 60 years, before he preceded her in death on June 23, 2006.
Surviving are her children, Mark R. Freed, of Huntingtown, Maryland, Craig A. Freed and his wife Cathy (Musser) Freed, of Waldorf, Maryland, Lori L. Hampton and her husband Brian Hampton, of Gaithersburg, Maryland, a sister, M. Lovina Sheerer, of Mifflintown, and a grandson, Austin N. Freed, of Waldorf, Maryland.
One daughter, Marilyn K. Freed, two brothers, L. James Bossler, C. Alton Bossler and one sister, E. Aberdeen Sponic preceded her in death.
In 1945 she graduated from Fayette High School, McAlisterville and she was a homemaker for her married life.
She was an active member of the Thompsontown United Methodist Church, Thompsontown, where she served on various church boards, as bible school director and a volunteer.
Darlene enjoyed researching family genealogy, gardening, reading, crocheting, as well as teaching piano lessons; however, among her greatest joys was spending time with her family.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 23, 2016 from the Thompsontown United Methodist Church, West Main Street, Thompsontown with the Rev. Barbara Yorks officiating. Interment will follow in the Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Thompsontown.
Viewing will be held Friday, April 22, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 111 Westfall St., McAlisterville.
