Martin O. “Marty” Lock, 83, of Mifflintown, passed away at 2:20 p.m. on Sunday, May 15, 2016, at the Geisinger–Lewistown Hospital.
Born on June 4, 1932, in Philadelphia, PA, he was a son of the late Joseph and Mabel (Berkheimer) Lock. On June 7, 1952, he married his surviving wife, Martha C. (Grabowski) Lock, with whom he was blessed to share nearly 64 years.
Surviving are his children, James M. Lock and his wife Susan, of Philadelphia; Tina M. Millar, of Mifflintown; Thomas M. Lock and his wife Julia, of Spruce Hill; Mary Beth Matlock and her husband Mark, of Camp Hill; Matthew J. Lock and his wife Ann, of Mifflintown; Becky A. Lock, of Williamsport; 11 grandchildren, Josh Kauffman, Paul Millar, Erika Camm, Holly Cabell, Mark Millar, Crystal Lock, Ben Lock, Melissa Millar, Michael Lock, Lauren Lock, Katie Lock; and 7 great grandchildren, Illyana Camm, Landon Millar, Kya Camm, Claire Cabell, Vivian Cabell, Charlotte Cabell and Maleah Kauffman.
He was the last of his generation, having been preceded in death by 2 sisters and 7 brothers. He also was preceded in death by an infant daughter in 1955.
Mr. Lock was a decorated veteran of the Korean War, serving as both an infantryman and a paratrooper. He was honorably discharged in 1953 and embarked on a career in communications with Bell Telephone Co. He retired from AT&T in 1989.
He was a member of the Crawford-Brubaker VFW Post 5863 and the American Legion Post 298, both of Mifflintown.
A child at heart, Marty was an excellent handyman who enjoyed woodworking, animals and the outdoors. He especially loved being a devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather whose greatest joy came from spending time with his family.
Services will be private with Father William Weary officiating and the interment will be in the Union Memorial Gardens, Mifflintown, where the Juniata County Veterans Council will accord full military burial honors.
There will be no viewing.
