Miriam M. Love, 96, of East Waterford, passed away at 8:40 a.m. on Sunday, July 17, 2016 at the Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.
Born on July 23, 1919 in Concord, Franklin County, she was the daughter of the late Bruce L. and May M. (McMullen) Shearer. As a young girl she along with her 2 sisters formed a singing trio and traveled over the Tri-State area to entertain. It was at one of these events that she caught the eye of her late husband and on December 23, 1939, she married her late husband, Freeburn P. Love with who she was blessed to share more than 61 years of marriage until he preceded her in death on November 23, 2001.
Surviving are her children, Marlene Lauver and her husband J. Richard, of Allison Park, PA, Norman Love, of East Waterford, Elaine Civic and her husband, Thomas, of Wescosville, PA, a sister, Lois Wert and her husband, William, of Chambersburg, 8 grandchildren, Clifford, Daniel, Joseph and Jennie Love, Kim and Justin Lauver, Brian Civic and Jill (Civic) Eisenberg, and she leaves behind 5 great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were 2 sisters, Louise Shoop, Marjorie Henry, 2 brothers, Clair L. Shearer, R. Darwin Shearer, and a daughter-in-law Peggy W. Love.
She was a graduate of Fannett Metal High School, a longtime active member of the East Waterford Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the choir and served as president of the Pollyanna fellowship Group, Missionary Society, and Elder, Clerk of Sessions and delegate to the Carlisle Presbytery for a number of years. Also, she was a member of the Tuscarora Grange
774 and Pomona Grange 35 where she served in many capacities. Miriam also volunteered as a driver for the Juniata County Meals on Wheels.
Miriam was an avid gardener and took special pride in her flower gardens. She along with Freeburn enjoyed traveling and they visited much of the United States and Canada, especially enjoying train travel. They also traveled to New Zealand and Australia and they had a memorable trip to Israel; however, her utmost joy came from spending time with her family.
Viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 21, 2016 followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at the East Waterford Presbyterian Church with the Rev. John C. Park officiating. Interment will follow in the East Waterford Cemetery.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown.
