Obituary for Layton M. Jury

Layton M. Jury, 93, of Mifflintown died at 3:20 p.m. on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at Ohesson Manor, Lewistown.
Born on July 4, 1923 in Liverpool, Perry County, he was the son of the late R. Clayton and Sylvania B. (Charles) Jury. On October 5, 1946, he married his late wife, Mona E. (Schlegel) Jury, with whom he spent more than 67 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on June 11, 2014.
Surviving are 2 sons, Layton M. Jury, Jr, Ronald E. Jury and his wife Sharlene, all of Mifflintown.
A brother, Nelson D. Jury, preceded her in death.
His memberships included the Messiah Lutheran Church, and the American Legion Post # 298, both of Mifflintown.
Mr. Jury proudly served his country with the U.S. Army during WWII in the European African Middle Theater, where he was awarded the Purple Heart for his valor.
In earlier life he was employed by the American Viscose Corp., Lewistown until 1972 and he retired from Rite Aid, Shiremanstown.
Layton enjoyed woodworking and doing crossword puzzles.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 18, 2016 from the Union Memorial Gardens, Mifflintown with Mr. Donald W. “Saint” Prye officiating.
There will be no viewing.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown.
