Obituary for Darwin G. "Darv" Apple

OBITUARY NOTICE
DARWIN G. “DARV” APPLE

Darwin G. Apple, 71, of McAlisterville and formerly of Richfield was welcomed into heaven at 9:49 a.m. on Monday, March 6, 2017 with his family by his side after a long battle with ALS.
Born on June 3, 1945 in Lewistown,Mifflin County he was the son of the late Glenn F. and Ellen L. (Lauver) Apple. His wife of more than 51 years, Ruth Ann (Saner) Apple, survives.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Jeffrey S. Apple and his wife Lori, of Port Royal, Bryan L. Apple and his wife Lori, of Thompsontown; two sisters, Donna J. Saner and her husband Harold, of McAlisterville, Elaine K. Auker and her husband Delmar, of Thompsontown; and he leaves behind 4 grandchildren, Krystal Apple, Jason Apple, Cortney Apple and Janelle Apple.
Mr. Apple was a 1964 graduate of East Juniata High School, Cocolamus, and a member of the Lost Creek Mennonite Church, Oakland Mills. Currently he had been attending the Bunkertown Church of the Brethren, McAlisterville. He was also a member of the PA Farmers Association, the Mahantango Grange and the Lost Creek Hit & Miss Engine Club.
Until retiring in 2011, Darwin was employed as a truck driver, for more than 40 years by R.W. Bird, J.V. Oil, Hilltop Oil/Nittany Oil and Hoober’s Inc.
“Darv” believed in the Holy Scriptures and the Lancaster Farmer. He also enjoyed raising beef cattle on his farm, hit & miss engines, collecting red toy tractors and hunting. However, his greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He loved to attend their sporting events and other activities.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 11, 2017 from the Bunkertown Church of the Brethren, McAlisterville with Pastor Wesley Stahl officiating. Interment will follow in the Lauver’s Mennonite Cemetery, Evendale.
A viewing will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, March 10, 2017 with the family present from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 111 Westfall St., McAlisterville and on Saturday, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the Church.
