Betty A. Varner, 92, of McAlisterville, passed away at 5:32 p.m. on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at her home.
Born on August 22, 1925, in Fayette Township, Juniata County she a the daughter of the late Foster and Edna (Amey) Hepner. On August 12, 1942 she married her late husband Roy Daniel Varner with whom she was blessed to share more than 73 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on December 20, 2015.
Surviving are her three children, Clair Varner and his wife Kathleen, Connie Wagner and her husband Donald, all of McAlisterville, Crystal Elsasser and her husband Ryan, of Mifflintown; a sister, Marie Delancey and her husband David, of McAlisterville; six grandchildren, Brett Wagner and his wife Denise, Amy Strawser and her husband Craig, André Varner and his wife Jennifer, Shane Varner and his wife Krista, Courtney Elsasser and Caitlin Elsasser, and eight great-grandchildren Janelle Strawser, Leah Strawser, Racheal Swartwood and husband Ryan, Wyatt Wagner, Jared Wagner, Jessie Wagner, Trevor Varner, and Marin Varner.
Preceding him in death were two brothers, John Hepner, Leonard Hepner, and a sister, Mae Long.
Mrs. Varner was a member of the St. John’s United Methodist Church, McAlisterville.
Betty had a gift for crocheting and will always be known for being a great cook and an immaculate housekeeper; however, her greatest joy came from spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 23, 2017 from the St. John’s United Methodist Church, McAlisterville with Rev. Candace Arnold officiating. Interment will follow in the adjoining church cemetery.
A viewing will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. with the family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, September 22, 2015 from the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 111 Westfall St., McAlisterville and from 10 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the church.
