Obituary for Josephine A. Reeder
Josephine A. “Jody” Reeder, 97, of Port Royal, formerly of Dry Run, passed away peacefully at 10:21 p.m. on Thursday, June 17, 2021 at her residence surrounded by family.
Born on March 3, 1924, in Blairs Mills, Huntingdon County, she was a daughter of the late Isaac M. and Eva V. (Hockenberry) Reeder.
Surviving are: her son, Garry L. Reeder and his wife Barbara (Bowsman) Reeder of Port Royal; one granddaughter, Susan R. (Reeder) Kauffman and her husband Tom of Bushnell, FL; two grandchildren, Molly N. Reeder and Maxwell L. Reeder, both of Long Island, NY; one step great granddaughter, Ericka Kauffman of Maryland; and several nieces and nephews, Irene Yohn, Barbara McMillen, David (Tony) Hockenberry, Sharon Johnson, Diana Hoover, Joe Johnson, and Veda Neil.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one grandson, Mitchell L. Reeder; one brother, Edward I. Reeder; and two sisters, Evelyn (Dolly) Murray and Roberta (Betty) Johnson making her the last of her generation.
Jody was a 1941 graduate of Orbisonia High School.
Her employment included working at Letterkenney Army Depot and for the Art Yocum Family before going to work at Empire Kosher Poultry, Inc. in 1963 until she retired in 1996.
Ms. Reeder was a member of the Upper Tuscarora Presbyterian Church in Waterloo since 1937 where she served as a Elder for 18 years and a member of the church choir. She was also in charge of Evangelism where she sent birthday cards and get well cards to church members and also served for many years on the Women’s Auxiliary at Woodland Retirement Center helping with their annual yard sale to help support the patients.
Starting in February 2008, she attended Dry Run Senior Center and participated in many community projects and activities. She loved square dancing, attending all the local picnics and fairs, and was loved by everyone who knew her.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday, June 24, 2021 at the Upper Tuscarora Presbyterian Church, 589 Brick Church Road, East Waterford with Pastor Darwin C. Goshorn officiating. Interment will follow in the Upper Tuscarora Presbyterian Cemetery.
A Viewing will be held from 2:00 PM until the time of the funeral services at 3:00 PM on Thursday at the Church.
