Obituary for Elaine E. Houdeshel

Elaine Evelyn (Sieber) Houdeshel, 97, of McAlisterville, passed away at 2:59 AM on Monday, March, 23, 2022 at her residence.

Born on March 30, 1925 in McAlisterville, Juniata Co., she is the daughter of the late Frederick L. and Beatrice (Shirk) Sieber.

On September 20, 1952, she married her late husband, William Resh Houdeshel, with whom she was blessed to share over 69 years of marriage before his passing on March 5, 2022.

She is survived by: her children, Doris E. Watts and her husband Edward and William S. “Willie” Houdeshel and his wife Tracey, all of McAlisterville; seven grandchildren, Faith Watts, Jerry Watts and his wife Stephanie, Hope Shenk and her husband Jay, Bryce Houdeshel and his companion Tyler Palombo, Bryan Houdeshel, Jesse Watts and his fiance Victoria Fisher, and Eryn Haley and her husband Aaron; four great grandchildren; and one brother, Roger Sieber of Harrisburg.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Linda Watts in February 1983 and two brothers, Frederick A. Sieber and Paul L. Sieber.

Mrs. Houdeshel was a 1942 graduate of Fayette High School in McAlisterville and a 1943 graduate of Thompson Business College.

In earlier life, she was employed as a Secretary for L. Shellenberger and Sons Shirt Factory in McAlisterville after which, she devoted her time and love as a homemaker caring for her family.

Elaine was a member of the Brown’s United Methodist Church in McAlisterville where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, sang in the choir, and helped with Vacation Bible School for many years. She also served as a former Assistant Leader for the McAlisterville Girl Scout Troup.

Her hobbies included sewing, crocheting, and working on jigsaw puzzles.

Memorial Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at Brown's United Methodist Church, 33762 Route 35 North, McAlisterville with Pastor Kevin Brophy officiating. Interment will follow at Lost Creek Presbyterian Cemetery, McAlisterville.

A visitation will take place from 9:00 AM until the time of the Memorial Services at 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 4 at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mrs. Houdeshel’s memory can be made to Brown’s United Methodist Church, 33762 Route 35 North, McAlisterville, PA 17049.
