Obituary for Douglas E. "Doug" Meiser

Douglas E. “Doug” Meiser, 71, of Mifflintown (Centre), passed away at 11:30 PM on Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at his residence.

Born on August 29, 1950 in Danville, Montour County, he is the son of the late Ralph and Ruth (Hepner) Meiser.

On December 26, 1975, he married his surviving wife, Michele H. (Hackenberger) Meiser, with whom he was
blessed to share over 46 years of marriage before his passing.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by: his daughters, Malia M. Asthappan and her husband Jibey of Naples, FL and Kiersta J. Ranck and her husband Andrew of Mifflin; his three grandchildren “the trump cards of life” according to Doug, who were the joy of his life, Kaiya, Carter, and Kayli Asthappan; three brothers, R. Terry Meiser and his wife Jennie of Mifflin, Dennis Meiser and his wife Mary Lou of McAlisterville, and Michael Meiser and his wife Lisa of St. Augustine, FL; and many nieces and nephews.

Doug was a 1968 graduate of East Juniata High School in Cocolamus and had a strong entrepreneurial spirit. He was mainly involved in the Timber and Excavating Industries during his working career.

His memberships included the Cedar Grove Brethren in Christ Church in Mifflintown and he was a regular attendee of their Tuesday morning Men’s Prayer Group, was a proud board member of the Juniata Christian School (formerly Juniata Mennonite School) in McAlisterville for many years where he was also a part of the JMS/JCS Auxiliary and was highly involved with the building of the new JCS School.

Doug loved to cook and was a “self made Chef and Caterer.” He utilized these skills to feed family, friends, church family, and members of the community through his meal ministry. Doug could also be found spending time with family, going on cruises with his wife, telling stories to his grandchildren and anyone who would listen, and exploring gourmet foods.

Doug will be remembered for his ability to help, serve, and share the love of Christ with a servant’s heart. He made himself available to help anyone at any time.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, July 10, 2022 at the Cedar Grove Brethren in Christ Church, 287 Deerville Road, Mifflintown with Pastor Ken Hepner and Pastor Andrew Meiser officiating. Interment will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Mifflintown.

A viewing will be held from 5-7 PM on Saturday, July 9, 2022 in the Life Center at Cedar Grove Brethren in Christ Church and also on Sunday from 1:00 PM until the time of the funeral services at 2:00 PM at the church.
