Obituary for Joseph D. "Joe" Stoops

Joseph D. “Joe” Stoops,69, of Thompsontown, passed away at 1:42 p.m. on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at his residence.
Born on September 11, 1952 in Carlisle, Cumberland County, he is a son of Evelyn (Rebar) Stoops of Shermansdale and the late Mark Stoops.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara (Wertz) Stoops, two sons Jesse Stoops of Fulton, Kentucky and Adam Stoops of Thompsontown, step-daughter Penny (Wysong) and husband Keith Showalter of Everett, siblings Dennis Stoops, Bobby Stoops both of Shermansdale, Sharon Wolf and her husband, Darrell of Squires, Missouri, four grandchildren Kaitlynne (Showalter) Horvath, Taylor (Showalter) Newby, Daniel Stoops and Journey Stoops and five great grandchildren Asher, Callen, Laila, Lexi Horvath and J. J. Stoops.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Gary Stoops.
Joe loved the outdoors and will long be remembered for his apple orchard. Through his love of the outdoors he was passionate about hunting and fishing.
Mr. Stoops was a member of the Free Spring Church of the Brethren and he was a proud to serve his country as a U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran.
He retired with forty six years of service as a machine operator building bridges for various contractors.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 3, 2022 at the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 111 Westfall St., McAlisterville with Pastor Terry Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Gilead United Methodist Church Cemetery, Shermansdale.
A viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Services at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 3 at the funeral home.
