Obituary for H. Wayne Benson

H. Wayne Benson, 88, formerly of Millerstown, passed away at 8:30 AM, Sunday, March 10, 2024 at the Stonebridge Health and Rehabilitation Center, Duncannon.

Born on June 28, 1935 in Millerstown, Perry County, is a son of the late Alonza W. and Catherine (Holley) Benson.

On June 1, 1953, he married his surviving wife, Dorothy (Howell) Benson with whom he was blessed to share over 70 years of marriage before his passing.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Judy L. Shields of Loysville and Mary L. Prosser and her husband James of Newport; one son, Frank Benson and his companion Lisa Michols of Millerstown; four grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; three sisters, Minnie Dietz, Jennie Howell, and Grace Milligan; and many generations of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, David Benson, Lenus Benson, Paul Benson, and Junior Benson; five sisters, Mary Serbieff, Ruth Benson, Myrle Cooper, Mae Jones, and Jeannie Brown.

Mr. Benson was a 1953 graduate of Greenwood Joint High School in Millerstown and a member of the Free Spring Church of the Brethren, Mifflintown where he served as a former Deacon and Sunday School Teacher.

Wayne was formerly employed at Precisionware Cabinet Factory in Thompsontown; worked as a farmer, and was a self employed contractor.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing pinochle, church activities, woodworking and setting up at craft shows, and, in later life, loved to sing along to hymns.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 14, 2024 at the Free Spring Church of the Brethren, 670 Free Spring Church Road, Mifflintown with Pastor Terry Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery, Millerstown.

A viewing will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral services at 11:00 AM on Thursday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mr. Benson’s memory can be made to his church, Free Spring Church of the Brethren, 670 Free Spring Church Road, Mifflintown, PA 17059.
