Obituary for Beverly A. "Scottie" Scott

St. PETERSBURG, FLA., Beverly A. “Scottie” Scott, 68, of St. Petersburg, Fla., died on Friday, July 18, 2014 at the St. Anthony’s Hospital, St. Petersburg, Fla.
Born on March 18, 1946, in and raised in Blairs Mills, Huntingdon County, she was the daughter of the late Oshell J. and Dorothy L. (Goshorn) Scott.
Surviving are a friend, Eugenia Ulman, of St. Petersburg, Fla., two sisters, Leona Coons, of Concord, Ginger Best and her husband Daryl, of Honey Grove, a brother, Benny Scott of Falling Spring Nursing Home, Chambersburg,and she leaves behind several generations of nieces and nephews. Also dear to her heart is the extended softball family, friends and her loving dog Gizmo.
Two brothers, Larry Scott and Oshell F. “Ginny” Scott preceded her in death.
She was a 1964 graduate of Southern Huntingdon High School, Orbisonia, also she earned her Associate of Applied Science Degree in Electronic Engineering Technology from ITT Technical Institute, San Antonio, Texas in 1994.
Master Sergeant (Ret.) Scott was a U.S. Army Viet Nam veteran and a combat veteran of Desert Storm who served her country proudly and honorably for 24 years. Throughout her military career various duties included recruiting, telecommunications, supply service, logistics and Equal Opportunity. She was assigned to various units located in Japan, Korea, Germany, Colorado, Alabama and Georgia. Among her awards and decorations were the Meritorious Service Ribbon, Army Commendation Medal (3d Oak Leaf Cluster), National Service Medal with Bronze Star, Southwest Asia Service Medal with 2 bronze stars and various other citations.
“Scottie” loved playing and coaching softball, motorcycle riding, RVing and the game corn hole. She was an avid tennis fan with future dreams of attending a major tournament and had a true passion for lighthouses and dolphins. Her favorite football team was the New Orleans Saints and she loved Scooby-Doo.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 1, 2014 from the Village Lighthouse Chapel, Route 35, Blairs Mills with Pastor Judy Rowles officiating. Interment will follow in the Book Cemetery, Richvale where full military burial honors will be accorded by the Juniata County Veterans Council.
There will be no viewing; however the family will receive friends Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown.
