Richard L. Flood, Sr., 91, of the Valley View Haven, Belleville and formerly of Rockville died at 4:48 p.m. on Sunday, November 30, 2014, at Valley View.
Born on August 12, 1923 in Dublin Twp., Huntingdon County, he was a son of the late Jesse R. and Jessie I. (Piper) Flood. On December 1, 1951 he married Lillian G. (Banks) Flood, who preceded him in death on August 20, 1974.
He is survived by his children, Beverly F. Berich and her husband Douglas, of Yeagertown, Connie L. Strawser and her husband Christopher, of McAlisterville, Richard L. Flood, Jr. and his wife Betty Jo, of Reedsville; grandchildren, Michael A. Berich, Craig T. Berich, Adrienne E. Strawser, Brian K. Strawser, Carey B. Goss and her husband Jason, Jessica L. Henry and her husband Michael; and great-grandchildren, Hunter, Allie and Nicholas Goss, Griffin and Isabella Lillian Henry.
One son, Robert W. Flood, preceded him in death on June 17, 1970 and he is the last of his immediate family, having been preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Shaw and Helen Tice and one brother, Robert J. Flood.
He was a 1941 graduate of Orbisonia High School and a Presbyterian by faith.
In earlier life, he owned and operated Flood’s Lumber Company, Spruce Hill and later retired in 1984, with 20 years of service in the Melt Shop, as Melter Supervisor from Standard Steel, Burnham.
Richard loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also enjoyed woodworking, gardening and tending to his flowers.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 from the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown with the Rev. Michael Sigler officiating. Interment will follow in the Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown.
Viewing will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service, Wednesday, at the funeral home.
