Betty J. Page, 90, of the Manor at Perry Village, New Bloomfield and formerly of McAlistervilled died at 11:55 a.m. on Thursday, February 5, 2015 at the Manor.
Born on March 25, 1924 in Fayette Twp., Juniata County, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Emma (Bassler) Burns. On November 19, 1943, she married her late husband, Clarence S. Page, with whom she spent more than 60 years of marriage, until he preceded her in death on May 20, 2004.
Surviving are her children, Kathleen Varner and her husband Clair, of McAlisterville, Jeffrey Page, of Thompsontown, sister, Laura Alice Horning, of Licking Creek, grandsons, Andre Varner and his wife Jennifer, of McAlisterville, Shane Varner and his wife Kris, of Mifflintown, Philip Page, of Cocolamus, and three great-grandchildren, Trevor Varner, Marin Varner and Caleb Fisher.
One sister, Annabel Sassaman, one step sister, Martha Fogleman and two step brothers, Leroy Fogleman and Henry Fogleman preceded her in death.
Mrs. Page was a 1942 graduate of Fayette High School, McAlisterville and was a very active member of the Bunkertown Church of the Brethren, where she taught Sunday school, Bible school and led the Youth Group. She was also a member of the WCTU, the Gray Ladies and was called to volunteer for blood drives.
In her earlier years of marriage, she worked at the cannery in McAlisterville. After which she helped her husband with his Plumbing and Electrical business and took great pride in keeping a spic and span home. In the summer, she tended a garden, froze and canned the many fruits and vegetables that she grew.
Betty will be missed greatly and a memorial service in her honor will be held at 2 p.m. on, Saturday, February 14, 2015 from the Bunkertown Church of the Brethren with Rev. Terry Smith and Mr. Larry Sellers officiating. Interment will be in the Goodwill Cemetery, Bunkertown.
