JoAnn S. McWilliams, 82, of Leesburg, FL died at 3:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 26, 2015 in Smithfield, NC, while in route to Mifflintown from Leesburg.
Born on January 13, 1933 in Mifflintown, Juniata County, she was a daughter of the late Clarence S. and Charlotte P. (Pontius) Saylor. On December 7, 1952 she married her surviving husband, J. Edmond “Ed” McWilliams, with whom she shared more than 62 years of marriage.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Pamela M. Kennedy and her husband J. Douglas, of Port Royal, Scott E. McWilliams and his wife Gail, Melissa J. Smith and her husband Daniel, J. Douglas McWilliams, all of Mifflintown, one brother, Richard C. Saylor and his wife Connie, of Mifflin, 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
One sister, Patty Lou Saylor preceded her in death.
She was a 1950 graduate of Juniata Joint High School, Mifflintown and a 1954 graduate of Lewistown School of Nursing. She was also a lifelong member of the Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Mifflintown, a 50 year member the Mifflin Chapter #260, Order of the Eastern Star, a 30 year member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Mifflintown Rotary, where she was an honorary Paul Harris Fellow.
After graduating from nursing school she was employed as an RN for Black’s Hospital, Lewistown. She also helped her husband, Ed, operate the family businesses, Ed’s Drive-In and later Juniata Disposal Service.
JoAnn loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also loved to travel and go shopping with family and friends. Entertaining at weekend picnics at their cottage in Perry County was something she enjoyed as well.
In retirement, she and Ed wintered in their home in Leesburg, Fl. Because of an extended illness, this was to be her last winter in Florida. Her wish was to return home to Pennsylvania.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 2, 2015 from the Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Mifflintown with Pastor Stephanie Rupert officiating. Interment will be private in the Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery.
