Shirley G. Guiser, 79, of the Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin and formerly of Licking Creek died at 4:55 a.m., Thursday, July 2, 2015, at the Village.
Born on December 8, 1935, in Burnham, Mifflin County, she was a daughter of the late Harry G. “Jack” and Mary E. (Houtz) Garrett.
Surviving are her children, Erik A. Guiser and his wife Kimberly, Kurt L. Guiser and his wife Melissa, all of Mifflintown and two granddaughters, Laine and Anna Guiser.
A brother, William E. Garrett and two daughters, Britta Guiser and an infant preceded her in death.
She was a 1953 graduate of Burnham Derry Joint High School, a 1957 graduate of Shippensburg State Teachers College and she attended Elizabethtown College.
Her memberships included the St. Stephens Lutheran Church, Licking Creek and she was the past worthy matron of the Mifflin Chapter # 260, Order of the Eastern Star, Mifflintown.
In earlier life, she taught business at the Pequea Valley High School, Lancaster and later at Avalon High School, Pittsburgh after which she taught at a business college in Pittsburgh. She had also served as the business manager for the late Dr. L.G. Guiser. She then owned and operated the Blue Shutter Stitchery, Bucks Port, Maine and she was employed by the Kelly Secretarial Services, of Maine. She later served as the secretary at H.B. Alexander, Harrisburg and retired in 2000 from Tyco, Harrisburg.
Shirley was an avid reader who enjoyed needlepoint, cross stitch, crossword puzzles and traveling.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 6, 2015 from the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown with the Rev. Christopher Mathiason officiating. Interment will follow in the Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown.
A viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m. Monday until 10:45 a.m. at which time an Eastern Star service will be accorded by her chapter.
