Jean E. Singer, 92, of the Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin and formerly of Mifflintown, died at 3:00 a.m., Sunday, March 20, 2016, at the village.
Born on December 15, 1923, in Walker Twp., Juniata County, she was a daughter of the late Luther and Lillian (Rowe) Prye. On June 16, 1946 she married her late husband Robert E. Singer with whom she was blessed to share more than 46 years, before he preceded her in death on November 30, 1992.
Surviving are three daughters: Janis D. Singer, of Mifflintown, Bobbie J. Valeski, of State College, Joan A. McNichol and her husband John, of Mechanicsburg; one brother, Donald W. “Saint” Prye and his wife Carol, of Mifflintown and several nieces and nephews.
Seven brothers, John Prye, Harold Prye, Leigh Prye, Carl Prye, Ross Prye, Warren Prye, Marlin Prye, and two sisters, Geraldine Nearhood and Flo Watts preceded her in death.
Mrs. Singer was a member of the Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Mifflintown.
In addition to being a homemaker, Jean worked as a cook, for the Walker Elementary School, during the 60’s and later in the 70’s and 80’s she was a clerk and bookkeeper for the IGA Foodliner, Mifflintown.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Thursday, March 24, 2016, from the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown with the her brother Donald W. “Saint” Prye officiating. Interment will follow in the Adams Cemetery, Mifflintown.
Viewing will be from 11 a.m. until the time of service, Thursday, at the funeral home.
