Thelma I. Fogleman, 94, formerly of McAlisterville, died at 6:57 p.m. on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at the Richfield Senior Living and Rehabilitation Center.
Born on June 26, 1921 in Fayette Twp., Juniata County, she was a daughter of the late Irvin and Mabel (Shellenberger) Leister. On March 23, 1944, she married her late husband, Paul R. “Dick” Fogleman and was blessed to share 50 years of marriage until he preceded her in death on April 15, 1994.
Surviving are her daughters, Janice Fogleman, Annette Frymoyer and her husband James, Lois Troutman, all of McAlisterville; grandsons, Andrew Haines and his wife Billie, Timothy Haines and his wife Monica; and great grandchildren, Gracen, Gavin, Camille and Lucy Haines.
Three brothers, Blair Leister, Charles Leister and Lee Leister, one sister, Mae Newman; and one son-in-law, Kenneth E. Troutman preceded her in death. She was the last of her generation.
Mrs. Fogleman was a member of the Good News Lutheran Brethren Church, McAlisterville, where she had played the piano. She was a former member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, where she had also played the piano and sang in the choir. Thelma was an avid golfer and member of the Lost Creek Golf Club. At age 12, Thelma was the first pianist for the Bunkertown Men’s Chorus.
Earlier in life, she was employed as a cook at the Fayette Elementary School and then as a secretary for Roush Insurance Agency and JV Oil Company. She later retired as a secretary from the Richfield Shirt Factory.
In addition to being an accomplished musician, Thelma enjoyed singing and sewing; but her greatest joy came from the time she spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11a.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at the Good News Lutheran Brethren Church, 32868 Rt. 35 North, McAlisterville, with Pastor Michael Edwards officiating. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery, McAlisterville.
Viewing will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service, Saturday at the church.
