Ernest R. “Ernie” Bolig, 86, of Thompsontown died at 1:50 a.m., Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at the Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.
Born on February 17, 1930 in Monroe Twp., Juniata County he was a son of the late Martin and Maggie (Long Gelnett) Bolig. On December 1, 1956 he married his surviving wife Fay L. (Fry) Bolig with whom he was blessed to share nearly 60 years, of marriage.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Robert E. Bolig, Sr., of Lewistown, Pat Sierer and her husband Rob of McAlisterville; a sister, Lena Arnold and her husband Harold, of Richfield; grandchildren, Mandy Sierer-Brown and her husband Chris, Robert E. Bolig, Jr.; and a great granddaughter, Isabella Brown.
Two brothers, Kenneth Gearhart, Richard Bolig and four sisters, Vera Troup, Erma Brugger, Hattie Diehl, and Betty Slipetz, preceded him in death.
He was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Thompsontown. He was also a member of the Juniata County Sportsmens Association, a lifetime member of the NRA and a member of the Carpenters Local 287, Harrisburg.
Ernest proudly served his country in the U.S. Marines during the Korean War.
For 43 years, Mr. Bolig was employed by Triangle Pacific, Thompsontown until his retirement in 1992 as foreman of the Shipping Dept.
Ernie was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed fishing and hunting and will be remembered for his ground hog hunting. He also enjoyed his cats and dogs, gardening and going to camp in Potter County.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 31, 2016 from the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Thompsontown with the Rev. Michael Sigler officiating. Interment will follow in the Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Thompsontown, where the Juniata County Veterans Council will accord full military burial honors.
Viewing will be held Saturday, July 30, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 111 Westfall St., McAlisterville.
