Abraham S. “Abe” Burd, 93, of Mifflintown, died at 4:52 a.m. on Sunday, August 28, 2016, at his home.
Born on June 16, 1923 in Beale Township, Juniata County, he was a son of the late Lloyd and Mary (Woodward) Burd. On April 25, 1942 he married his surviving wife, Rebecca J. (Fultz) Burd, with whom he was blessed to share more than 74 years of marriage.
Surviving are 2 daughters; Sara Jane Miller and her husband Victor, of Mechanicsburg, Debbie S. Shirk and her husband Ron, of Mifflintown and he leaves behind, 4 grandchildren, Karl Miller, Blaine Miller, Ann Smith and Justin Shirk also 8 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
He was the last of his generation having been preceded in death by 13 siblings.
Abe was a member of the Thompsontown Baptist Church and he loved the outdoors being an avid hunter and fisherman. He also was a sports enthusiast enjoying following the Philadelphia Phillies and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
In earlier life, Mr. Burd was employed by the Lewistown Foundry and later retired in 1968 from Metal Mex Corp as a sheet metal fabricator.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 31, 2016 from the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge Street, Mifflintown, with the Rev. Donald Henrickson officiating. Interment will follow in the Old Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal.
Viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m., Wednesday until the time of service at the funeral home.
