Obituary for Jay E. Kipp

Jay E.  Kipp
Jay E. Kipp, 82, of Mexico, PA passed away at 8:41 p.m. on Sunday, March 19, 2017, at the Bridges at Brookline, Mifflintown.
Born on September 23, 1934, in Millerstown, Perry County, he was a son of the late Charles H. Kipp and Emily (Smith) Kipp Brubaker. On August 11, 1954 he married his late wife, Betty J. (Lauver) Kipp with whom he was blessed to share more than 51 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on April 30, 2006.
Surviving are his 3 sons; Charles L. Kipp, of Newport, John E. ”Jack” Kipp and his wife Lisa, of Mifflin, Jay E. Kipp and his wife Danielle, of Mount Wolf, a companion, Alma Briggs, of York, a sister, Patsy Vaclavik, of Millersburg, a half-sister, Frances Welfley, of Mifflintown; and he leaves behind 4 grandchildren, Jason D. Kipp and his wife Deanna, Ashley R. Kipp, Adam C. Kipp, Marissa Kipp as well as a great grandson, Benjamin Kipp.
Preceding him in death were 3 brothers and 3 sisters.
His education included being a 1952 graduate of Juniata Joint High School, Mifflintown and he graduated in 1960 with a B.S. from Shippensburg State Teachers College.
From 1952 until 1956 he proudly served his country during the Korean War with the U.S. Air Force having attained the rank of Staff Sergeant.
In 1993 he retired with 33 years of service from the Juniata County School District where he served as a Business Teacher at East Juniata High School. For several years he also served as the head baseball coach at East Juniata.
He was a member of the Crawford-Brubaker VFW Post No. 5863, American Legion Post No. 298, both of Mifflintown, J.E. Bowen Jr. AmVets Post No. 122, Thompsontown, Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge No. 925, Millerstown, the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees, Juniata County Chapter, a charter member, original secretary and Hall of Fame member of the Lost Creek Golf Club, Oakland Mills. He also was a member of the Juniata County Veterans Council, where he had served as treasurer and served on the military burial honors detail.
Jay enjoyed traveling, dancing, building model ships, being a civil war buff and he loved the New York Yankees. Baseball was a big part of his life. He managed and played for the town team in Port Royal and he also managed many American Legion and teener league baseball teams. His greatest joy came from watching his sons’ sporting events and now his grandchildren’s.
A Graveside Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 23, 2017 from the Union Cemetery, Mifflintown with the Pastor Casey Hostler officiating, where the Juniata County Veterans Council, will accord military burial honors.
A viewing will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 from the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown.
